The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
